- Shalako puppies are raised in our
house and as part of
our family, not
in a kennel run. We look for homes that will
make the dogs part of their lives as a family member.
- Not all Shalako puppies are
right for every person and
when this happens, we are happy to refer the buyer to
other reputable breeders who might have a litter better suited to their
needs.
We
always recommend that buyers searching for a family companion please
consider adopting a Rescue Aussie first!
- We will not place dogs in homes
who keep their pets exclusively outdoors. All homes must have a secured
yard or means of containment that will keep the pet safe and make their
pets part of their household..
- We carefully screen our buyers and
ask lots of
questions
because we want to be
certain that both the owners and puppies are well suited to each other.
Buying a puppy should never be a spur of the moment decision. We don't
place pets based on eye color, please don't ask us for a blue eyed
puppy.
- We want to be assured that a puppy
is a good match for a home and so we wait until the pup is over seven
weeks of age and has been temperament tested and evaluated before
owners can select puppies. Puppies may leave for their new homes after
eight weeks of age.
- All pups and dogs are sold with a
written contract
warranting against inherited genetic defects that render the pup
unsuitable for the purpose for which it was sold.
- We will take any of our dogs back
for any reason, at
any point in their life.

- Our
dogs are registered with both the American Kennel Club and the
Australian Shepherd Club of America. They are sold with either Limited
Registration and neuter contracts or with full registration on
co-ownership contracts.
- All puppies
receive a Canine Parvovirus, Distemper
Virus, and Adenovirus-2
vaccination prior to leaving
and we recommend following the Colorado State minimal vaccination
protocol. All pups are wormed for
intestinal parasites using Febendazole
(Panacur) and started on Interceptor
Heartworm
preventative. We feed Nutro Ultra dog and Pinnacle food.
- Puppies will leave with a start in
basic leash, crate,
and
housetraining which we encourage owners to follow up on in a formal
training environment.
- All puppies are
checked for inherited eye defects by a
certified canine ophthalmologist and have a regular health exam prior
to being placed.
- Each puppy is individually
temperament tested at 7
weeks of age and structure is evaluated between 7 and 9 weeks.
- All companion puppies are sold
with spay/neuter
requirements with papers marked Not For Breeding.
- Show quality pups are available
either on a
neuter contract or if an individual shows a sincere interest in wishing
to participate in dog sports, on an intact co-ownership show contract.
